Andrew Barker represents financial institutions, private equity funds, alternative capital providers, and corporate borrowers on a wide variety of debt and structured finance transactions, with a particular focus on domestic and cross-border real estate finance.
Andrew acts for clients including Babson Capital, CalPERS, Goodman Industrial Trust, Morgan Stanley, and TPG.
Recent representations include acting for Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund on the recapitalization of Songbird Estates plc, the majority shareholder of the Canary Wharf Group, and the associated debt buyback of an £880 million loan made to Songbird by Citibank.
Andrew regularly lectures on various aspects of banking and finance law and has published a number of papers including, most recently, on debt buybacks and the enforcement of security on cross-border transactions.
