Europe
As you might expect from our consistent number-one ranking in number of M&A deals worldwide, much of Jones Day's European and U.K. practice centers on cross-border transactions, mergers, and acquisitions. But we also have significant representations in the fields of competition/antitrust and regulatory law, telecommunications (the focus of our Brussels Office), intellectual property and patent litigation (the focus of our Munich Office), real estate and private equity (the focus of our London Office), energy (the focus of our Moscow Office), and commercial litigation, employment law, tax, and domestic and international disputes.

The London Office received the honor of having the top-ranked graduate trainee program in the United Kingdom last year. Jones Day London has a steady stream of vacation scheme and graduate trainees in the office who are on track to fill associate positions after becoming fully qualified to practice. Graduate trainees attend the New Lawyer Academy held in the Washington Office each fall.

Many of the Firm's lawyers in Europe, now numbering more than 400, are qualified to practice both local and U.S. law. Our European offices regularly seek trainees and interns to work during the school year or school breaks to gain knowledge and experience in the practice of law. We prefer law students or recent graduates who can qualify to practice in an EU country and who have also obtained, or will soon obtain, an LL.M. or J.D. degree in the United States. We require fluency in English (both spoken and written), along with fluency in at least one European language.

Clients select us for our ability to anticipate and avoid problems, our skill in recommending avenues that may increase revenues or reduce overall expenses, and our commitment to understanding their businesses as well as the industries in which they compete. Clients also select Jones Day for our exceptional service, which has been recognized by a BTI Consulting Group survey of Fortune 1000 corporate counsel: Jones Day was ranked number one in three of the last five years in BTI's Client Service 30, becoming BTI's first-ever three-time client service champion and earning a place in BTI's Client Service Hall of Fame.
