Chris Cook has 20 years of experience as a trial lawyer in civil litigation and white-collar defense involving a wide range of business issues. His practice is focused on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and health care litigation. Chris handles cases between private parties and against government enforcement agencies.
As a former federal prosecutor, Chris can and will take cases to trial if necessary. Because most matters are resolved before reaching the courthouse steps, Chris also has experience evaluating, negotiating, and settling matters. Chris regularly defends clients being investigated by the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and state attorneys general. His civil litigation work includes commercial disputes, class actions, False Claims Act enforcement actions, and nationwide federal cases consolidated by the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation.
Many of Chris's criminal engagements relate to the FCPA, embargo violations, and other issues unique to international business. Chris has advised more than 100 clients in diverse contexts relating to the FCPA, such as responding to government investigations, creating compliance policies, undertaking due diligence, negotiating contractual relationships, and conducting internal investigations.
Health care litigation has formed a mainstay of Chris's practice since he left the Chicago U.S. Attorney's Office in 1997. He has represented pharmaceutical companies in civil and criminal litigation relating to drug marketing and pricing. He also has handled investigations and litigation relating to health care providers under the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Act, and the Stark Law. Chris likewise represents health care clients in civil litigation between private parties.
Chris is a member of the American Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar, the State Bar of Georgia, and the Trial Bar for the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. In his free time, Chris enjoys competing in triathlons.
