Kaoru Umino has a wide range of experience in cross-border financing transactions, with particular emphasis on corporate finance, structured finance, and securitization.

Throughout her career, Kaoru has represented major investment banks and commercial banks as well as export credit agencies. Her experience includes advising the arranger in a series of commercial mortgage-backed securities offerings involving real estate assets and nonperforming assets in Japan, including the first rated CMBS offering in Japan. Kaoru also has represented the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and leading Japanese commercial banks as lenders in major export-import and project financings in Latin America and Asia. In addition, she advised JBIC in connection with the securitization of collateralized debt obligations of small to medium-sized Korean enterprises, which was the first cross-border Japanese and Korean-backed bond offering pursuant to the Asia Bond Market Initiative.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Kaoru was a managing director and associate general counsel of JPMorgan Securities Japan, Limited, managing the legal and compliance departments of JPMorgan in Japan. Prior to working for JPMorgan, Kaoru was a partner in the Tokyo office of an international law firm. She is fluent in Japanese and English.
