Irene Vermeeren has more than 20 years of experience counseling and representing employers on employment and employee benefits issues, with a focus on Dutch and European pension law. Her experience includes labor and employment (L&E) counseling (including on the hire and termination of executives), involvement in international employment redesign and cost-cutting processes, M&A transactions and benefits harmonization and integration processes, disputes and landmark cases in employment, and pension litigation. She has arranged and participated in international retirement income fund (RIF) projects and cost-cutting projects and has conducted and advised on several worldwide restructurings for multinational clients. Irene also has significant experience representing clients in consultation and negotiation procedures with unions and works councils.

Irene has published widely on matters involving employment and pension law and lectures on ethics and compliance. She is a frequent speaker at international conferences and seminars and lectures at Nyenrode University. She is active in NIMF, IPEBLA, KPS, and the Association of Pension Lawyers. Irene is chair of the Pension Advisory Committee of the Dutch Bar Association and board member of VIIP, a professional network for women in financial (pension) institutions. Irene is also member of the supervisory board of Shell, ING, and Nationale Nederlanden pension funds.
