Tom Gillespie has practiced corporate and commercial law in New York, London, and Dallas. Tom oversees Jones Day's banking & finance practice for the Texas Region. He specializes in the representation of both financial institutions and corporations in complex domestic and international financial transactions, including secured and unsecured commercial loan facilities, project financings, lease financings, securitizations, debt and lease restructurings, acquisition financings, ESOP loans, letters of credit, competitive bid facilities, structured financings, derivatives, debtor-in-possession financings, and the private placement of securities. He also has considerable experience working in specific industry areas, including health care financings, energy financings, venture capital financings, and transportation financings (aircraft, vessels, and rolling stock). After obtaining his M.B.A. degree and prior to attending law school, Tom worked for two years in corporate finance with McDonnell Douglas Finance Corporation.
A member of the New York and Texas bars, Tom is a co-editor and contributing author of The Commercial Finance Guide and a contributing author of NAFTA and Beyond A New Framework for Doing Business in the Americas. For 12 years he served as co-director of, and speaker on various finance topics for, the Institute on Commercial Lending sponsored by the Southern Methodist University School of Law. He is also a frequent speaker on topics involving banking and finance and has organized and delivered programs on loan and collateral documentation as well as leasing and leveraged leasing as part of in-house credit training programs for various banks and financial institutions.
In each year since the publication commenced, Tom has been named as one of "America's Leading Lawyers" by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers, which is an independent, objective, and research-based guide that reflects the judgment of the market. This publication ranks lawyers by the opinions of their peers and clients and by the quality of their work.
