Volker Kammel has broad experience in the area of corporate law, with a focus on business restructuring, German and cross-border insolvencies, and investment in distressed entities. His clients include creditors (especially German and international financial institutions), companies in financial difficulties, their management and shareholders, purchasers of businesses (both prior to and after the start of insolvency proceedings), and investors in distressed assets such as nonperforming loans.
Volker has represented financial institutions in such high-profile insolvencies as Kirch Media and Fairchild Dornier. He advised Philipp Holzmann AG in the company's 1999 restructuring and a Euro Stoxx 50 company in the structuring of its 4 billion euro pension scheme in order to secure pensions in the event of financial distress. Most recently he represented a leading global investment firm in several transactions regarding the acquisition of loan portfolios from major German banks.
He is a member of the insolvency and restructuring practice group of the German Bar Association and the Association of Bank Lawyers. He is author of legal publications, including an article on the purchase of insolvent businesses, a number of contributions on insolvency law in legal manuals, and commentaries on judgments of the Federal Supreme Court.
