Jones Day adds two lawyers to Financial Markets practice in Hong Kong

Ming Kong has joined Jones Day as a partner, and Dominic Sze has joined as a counsel, in the Firm's Financial Markets Practice. Both are based in Hong Kong.

"Ming and Dominic have been involved in some of the most significant financing transactions in Asia, including major IPOs and debt capital market transactions," said Jay Tambe, leader of Jones Day's Financial Markets Practice. "Their experience advising on multibillion-dollar public offerings and high-stakes convertible debt placements is an excellent complement to the capabilities of our global practice and I'm delighted to welcome them to Jones Day."

At Jones Day, Mr. Kong and Mr. Sze join a team of nearly 320 lawyers worldwide in the Financial Markets Practice who advise clients on the full range of complex cross-border financial transactions, regulatory matters, investigations and litigation. The group represents a diverse client base of global financial institutions, issuers, borrowers, funds, asset managers, and fintech companies. The Firm's Financial Markets Practice has helped clients close more than $1 trillion in financing transactions over the last five years, including many precedent-setting financings.

"Ming and Dominic are both highly regarded here in the Hong Kong legal community for their work on large capital markets deals, including Ming's recent work on a transaction named 'Deal of the Year' by two Asia-Pacific business law publishers," said Joelle Lau, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's Hong Kong Office. "At a time when some international law firms are leaving Mainland China and Hong Kong, the arrivals of Ming and Dominic underscore our long-term commitment to the legal and business communities here. Having opened in Hong Kong nearly 40 years ago, and with 10 offices throughout Asia-Pacific, we remain dedicated to serving clients here and throughout the region. We are delighted they have chosen to join Jones Day and look forward to working alongside them in Hong Kong."

Mr. Kong has deep experience guiding companies in Greater China through their most critical milestones, from pre-IPO financing through listing and beyond. He acts as the lead drafting counsel representing industry-leading companies in connection with a wide variety of capital markets transactions, including some of the most high-profile and high-value deals in the market. He also advises corporate clients, investment banks and private equity funds on various structurally complex financing transactions and general corporate matters. Mr. Kong earned his juris doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School and his bachelor of laws degree from Renmin University of China.

Mr. Sze has extensive experience in debt capital market work in the Greater China region. He has counseled clients, both corporates and investment banks, in over 250 debt capital market transactions prior to joining Jones Day. The wide range of transactions include high-yield and unrated debts, investment grade debts, convertible and exchangeable securities, perpetual securities, dim sum bonds, green bonds, structured notes, and privately issued instruments. He has also assisted numerous clients with the liability management of such securities, including conducting tender offers, exchange offers and consent solicitations, as well as negotiating terms for restructured securities under their debt restructurings. Mr. Sze earned his bachelor and master of laws degrees from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

"Jones Day is consistently named among the elite law firms sought out by clients in Greater China who are in need of counsel on crucial cross-border transactional matters and other corporate legal needs, and I am honored to join this excellent global platform," said Mr. Kong. "Jones Day is known for providing exceptional service to its clients and I look forward to contributing to the Firm's One Firm Worldwide collaborative culture," added Mr. Sze.
