Xiaomi obtains complete dismissal in patent infringement action based on jurisdictional grounds

Jones Day successfully represented Xiaomi Inc. in a patent infringement case where the plaintiff asserted that Xiaomi infringed four patents relating to devices for controlling smartphone functions. After nearly a year of contentious litigation and extensive discovery, the case was dismissed for lack of personal jurisdiction and venue, and costs were awarded to Xiaomi. Early on, Jones Day filed a motion to exclude evidence based on multiple ethical violations committed by opposing counsel and prevailed on that motion.
