The SEED Foundation is a national nonprofit that partners with urban communities to provide innovative educational opportunities that prepare underserved students for success in college and beyond. The SEED Foundation is a catalyst for change in urban education: it developed the SEED boarding school model and opened its first school, The SEED School of Washington, D.C., in 1998. The SEED Foundation opened its second school in Maryland in August 2008.
SEED now hopes to establish one of its groundbreaking schools in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jones Day has been advising SEED on various legal, financial, social and political issues in the State of Ohio in an effort to help bring a SEED school to the State. In particular, Jones Day has advised SEED regarding issues that impact SEED's search for a reliable and continuing source of funding for SEED's Ohio school. Jones Day has also advised SEED regarding the preparation of proposed state legislation that will be utilized to authorize and implement an Ohio SEED school.
