Jones Day opened the Frankfurt Office in 1991, expanded to Munich in 2003, and opened in Düsseldorf in 2012. The Firm's commitment to its German practice reflects the critical role Germany plays in the global economy and its status as one of the most important legal markets in the world. As German investment expands internationally, Jones Day provides clients with sophisticated analysis and risk assessment of new markets, and zealously defends its clients' interests.

Bijan Tavakoli, European Counsel at Jones Day in Frankfurt, answers the question, "Why Jones
Day?"

Our Offices

Jones Day's most recent entry to Germany, the Düsseldorf Office serves the local business community, a focal point of Germany's industrial activities, along with new market entrants from Europe, the United States, and Asia. Like every Jones Day office, Düsseldorf is fully integrated across the region and the Firm. Our lawyers regularly work on matters with colleagues from offices all over the world. Even purely local matters frequently include team members from outside Düsseldorf.

Düsseldorf has maintained the charm of a start-up office. As with the rest of the Firm, the hierarchy is flat, allowing even our newest attorneys to assume leadership roles. Young lawyers regard their peers as friends and work colleagues. We are dedicated to promoting this collegial, collaborative work atmosphere. New lawyers are drawn to Düsseldorf's cosmopolitan atmosphere, upscale shopping, and Rhein waterfront views, but especially to the opportunity to become a part of a truly global firm while working closely with colleagues in a dynamic location.

When Jones Day Frankfurt opened in 1991, it was one of the first U.S. law firm offices in Germany.

Like every Jones Day office, Frankfurt is fully integrated across the Firm. Our lawyers regularly work on matters with colleagues from the Firm's offices in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Asia, and Australia.

The Frankfurt Office is conveniently located in the center of the city, adjacent to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. In many respects the office mirrors the city. Frankfurt is a dynamic modern town that attracts people and businesses from all over the world, yet is small enough to not feel impersonal. The countryside beyond the city offers many recreational options, including challenging mountain bike tours at the Feldberg and tours of the nearby vineyards of the Rheingau.

Our lawyers maintain relationships with the local business community and are active members of the German-American Chamber of Commerce and the German-Japanese Association in Bavaria. We are also active in various cultural organizations, including the Association of Friends of the Salzburg Festival.

We work closely with lawyers in other Jones Day offices throughout the world to ensure that we bring to bear the best resources of the Firm for our clients.

Lawyers at the start of their careers join our New Lawyers Group, where they have the opportunity to gain exposure to different practices and lawyering styles before making a commitment to a specific practice. New lawyers attend the New Lawyer Academy, an annual event held in Washington, D.C. Each fall, new lawyers assemble from our more than 40 offices around the world to meet and network with each other and learn what it means to be One Firm Worldwide. Our Firm leaders, partners, and associates teach the new lawyers about Jones Day's culture, history, organization, and achievements and lead substantive and interactive training sessions. Every year, our new lawyers take away from the Academy a sense of great pride and excitement about being part of the Firm.
