Marine veteran receives full Social Security Disability Insurance benefits
Client(s) Client S
Jones Day’s client, a Marine veteran, was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) stemming from his service in armed combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. The client sought Social Security Disability Insurance benefits. The Social Security Administration denied the client’s initial application as well as his request for reconsideration, at which point Jones Day became involved.
Bill Coglianese represented the client at a hearing before the SSA’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review; at this hearing the client answered questions from both the presiding Administrative Law Judge and from Bill about the events that led to his PTSD and the challenges he faces as a result. After this hearing the ALJ issued a fully favorable decision, and the client will begin receiving benefits from the SSA as soon as the decision is processed.
