Jones Day attorneys obtain a civil protection order for victim of domestic abuse
Client(s) Client M
Jones Day attorneys in the Washington, DC office obtained a civil protection order on behalf of a victim of domestic abuse. In that case, the petitioner had been repeatedly threatened with physical violence by the respondent, a former boy friend with whom the petitioner has a child. Following a bench trial, the court issued an order enjoining the respondent from contacting, either directly or through a third-party, the petitioner for a period of one year. The order also requires the respondent to stay at least 100 feet away from the petitioner during the life of the order and grants full custody of the parties’ child to the petitioner. Jeff McSorley was lead counsel and handled the trial. Adria Villar assisted with all aspects of the case, and Lou Fisher provided oversight.
