Bonhams succeeds on £4.5 million judgment against defaulting Qatari buyer

Jones Day represented the well known auctioneers, Bonhams, in successful proceedings against Sheikh Al-Thani.  In what was a race to judgment given the number of rival creditors and competing sets of proceedings, Jones Day successfully applied for urgent freezing relief and summary judgment on its claims, being awarded costs of the full proceedings on the indemnity basis given the Sheikh's repeated attempts to frustrate Bonhams' attempts to pursue him to judgment.  Jones Day thereafter implemented a rapid and hugely effective global enforcement strategy.
