New York Senate successfully defends redistricting plan against voters' preliminary injunction action
Client(s) New York Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos, Co-chair of the New York State Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment ("LATFOR") Senator Michael F. Nozzolio, and LATFOR member Welquis R. Lopez
Jones Day successfully defended New York Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos, Chairman of the New York State Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment ("LATFOR") Senator Michael F. Nozzolio, and LATFOR member Welquis R. Lopez in a preliminary injunction action seeking a court-imposed redistricting plan. In this case, the Intervenors claimed that the enacted redistricting plan for the State Senate violated the Equal Protection Clause and Voting Rights Act. Jones Day briefed these issues on an expedited basis, and the three-judge panel denied the Intervenors' motions for a preliminary injunction on May 16, 2012.
