CenterLight Health System obtains summary judgment in race discrimination case
Client(s) CenterLight Health System
Jones Day obtained summary judgment on behalf of CenterLight Health System dismissing a federal race discrimination action by a former nurse manager. The nurse manager alleged that the defendant had terminated her employment on the basis of her race (African American). The plaintiff's theory of race discrimination was that her African American supervisor expected a higher degree of loyalty from her due to their common race. The court found that the plaintiff had not presented evidence that she was held to different standards due to her race, and it consequently dismissed the federal discrimination claim. The court declined to exercise supplemental jurisdiction over the plaintiff’s state law discrimination and whistleblower claims.
