Honda successfully defends against patent infringement action

Jones Day obtained a dismissal of all claims against American Honda Motor Company, Inc. and Honda of America Mfg., Inc. in three patent infringement actions brought in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas by plaintiff American Vehicular Sciences LLC ("AVS"). AVS asserted eight patents relating to telematics, weight sensing/airbag, and collision avoidance technologies against Honda and several other defendants. Jones Day won a transfer of the actions to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Jones Day filed nine petitions for inter partes review before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and successfully instituted review of all asserted claims. On January 23, 2015, all claims against Honda were dismissed with prejudice.
