Experian and other national credit reporting agencies resolve New York Attorney General Investigation

Jones Day represented Experian Information Solutions, Inc. in connection with a New York Attorney General consumer protection investigation into the credit reporting industry. The investigation, which examined the credit reporting activities of Experian and the other national credit reporting agencies, Equifax Information Services, LLC and TransUnion LLC, was resolved after extensive negotiations resulted in a groundbreaking agreement among the credit reporting agencies and the Attorney General. The agreement provides consumers with new initiatives relating to credit report accuracy, dispute processing, and enhancements to AnnualCreditReport.com, while resolving the investigation without a finding of any wrongdoing or requiring any monetary penalty. In announcing the agreement, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman thanked Experian and the other credit reporting agencies for their commitment to improving the consumer experience.
