Client(s) Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation, Seoul Broadcasting System International, Inc., KBS America, Inc.
In one of the largest Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA") awards on record, Korean broadcasters represented by Jones Day obtained a $66 million judgment plus attorneys fees against a Hong Kong digital transmission device maker, which operated a P4P digital broadcast piracy network, and its local distributor. Applying the DMCA, copyright and trademark laws, the Court entered a permanent injunction resulting in removal of the devices from the U.S. market and globally disrupting a piracy network comprising more than 10 million device peers.
