Imerys obtains European Commission clearance for acquisition of Alteo

Jones Day assisted Imerys S.A., a multinational manufacturer of industrial minerals, in the competition law assessment and merger filing for its acquisition of a business branch of Alteo, a leading French producer of specialty alumina.

This representation involved complex competition law issues arising from the multijurisdictional dimension of the transaction (which was reportable in three jurisdictions in the European Union), thus meeting the requirements for a referral to the European Commission under Article 4.5 of the EU Merger Regulation (EUMR)), as well as from certain horizontal overlaps arising out of the transaction.
