Synopsys obtains reversal of PTAB unpatentability decision
Client(s) Synopsys Inc.
Jones Day obtained a rare reversal of the PTAB on behalf of Synopsys, Inc. in its ongoing battle with ATopTech, Inc. After Synopsys sued ATopTech for patent infringement, ATopTech petitioned for an IPR of a Synopsys patent disclosing methods for designing large integrated circuits. The Board instituted review and found several claims unpatentable, while denying the petition as to others. Although the Federal Circuit affirms most Board decisions and generally remands the remainder for further review, Synopsys persuaded the Federal Circuit to reverse the Board's decision as to every claim appealed.
Synopsys, Inc. v. ATopTech, Inc., Nos. 16-1956, -1957 (Fed. Cir.); ATopTech, Inc. v. Synopsys, Inc., IPR Nos. 2014-01150, -01159 (PTAB)
