Synopsys reaches agreement with Mentor Graphics in competitor patent case

Jones Day served as lead trial counsel for Synopsys Inc. in competitor patent litigation against Mentor Graphics Corporation following the Federal Circuit’s remand of the case to the district court. This highly complex five-patent case on electronic design automation technology involved Mentor’s claim for supplemental and enhanced damages on one patent, Mentor’s further claim of infringement and damages on three additional patents, and Synopsys’ claim of infringement by Mentor of Synopsys’ patent and request for offsetting damages. The parties settled the case in July 2018, agreeing to a seven-year patent cross-license and a business collaboration agreement.
