Ability Opto-Electronics resolves patent infringement dispute relating to computer camera lenses
Client(s) Ability Opto-Electronics Technology Co., Ltd.
Jones Day defended Taiwan-based Ability Opto-Electronics Technology Co., Ltd. in a patent infringement lawsuit filed by its competitor Largan Precision Co., Ltd., in a case relating to optical lens systems for cameras and computers. Our team successfully petitioned the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board to institute inter partes review against three of the asserted patents despite the plaintiff’s vigorous opposition, achieving a perfect institution rate. The dispute then settled shortly after the institution decisions, and after the defendants’ successful transfer of the district court case to the Northern District of California, relocating it from plaintiff’s chosen venue of the Eastern District of Texas.
Largan Precision Co., Ltd. v. Ability Opto-Electronics Technology Co., Ltd, et al., Nos. 4-19-cv-00696 (E.D. Tex.); 3-20-cv-06607 (N.D. Cal.); Ability Opto-Electronics Technology Co., Ltd. v. Largan Precision Co., Ltd., IPR Nos. 2020-01339, -01345, -01545 (PTAB)
