Jones Day and valued firm client secure asylum for Eritrean refugee escaping religious persecution
Client(s) S.K.
In partnership with a valued firm client, Jones Day successfully secured asylum for an Eritrean refugee who was imprisoned and tortured by the Eritrean government for his Pentecostal beliefs. Before coming to the United States, SK was imprisoned three times for his religious beliefs and subjected to violence and torture during each detention. After SK fled Eritrea, Eritrean government officials repeatedly visited his friends and family and warned them that he would be killed if he ever returned to Eritrea. Due to the efforts of Jones Day and our valued firm client, SK may now live and work permanently in the U.S. and eventually apply for citizenship.
