Eritrean refugee secures asylum

As part of an ongoing collaboration, Jones Day partnered with a valued firm client to successfully secure asylum for an Eritrean refugee who fled her home country due to faith-based abuse and sexual assault by her husband, a high-ranking government official. Because of the dire country conditions and the urgency to get their client's children to the United States, Jones Day secured an expedited interview in August 2022 by submitting extensive briefing material and supporting documentation. The interviewing hearing officer found Jones Day's client's testimony credible and supported by the evidence and supporting affidavits Jones Day had compiled, and granted asylum for Jones Day's client and her derivatives. Thanks to the dedicated representation of Jones Day and its valued partner, their client can now submit petitions to have her two minor children join her in the United States.
