Augusta Chamber of Commerce and key industry leader file amicus brief in challenge to government reduction of water levels

Jones Day filed an amicus brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Augusta, Georgia and PCS Nitrogen Fertilizer, L.P. The amicus brief supports a challenge the State of South Carolina and the City of Augusta raised to the United States Army Corps of Engineers' plan to replace the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam with a rock weir that would significantly reduce the depth of the upstream water pool available to support industry and recreation in the Augusta area. South Carolina and Augusta prevailed in the district court. The amicus brief argues that the Corps misinterpreted the statute authorizing its plan and that the Corps conducted an inadequate analysis of its plan's effects.
