Global wine & spirits company defends against ICC arbitration concerning wrongful termination claims by former distributor in Africa, Middle East, and Asia

Jones Day represented a global wine & spirits producer in an ICC arbitration brought by its former distributor for Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. The former distributor commenced arbitration alleging that it had been wrongfully terminated and seeking over $30 million in alleged damages. After a week-long evidentiary hearing, Jones Day defeated the vast majority of the ex-distributor’s claims, resulting in a modest recovery, while prevailing on the entirety of the wine & spirits producer’s counterclaim for unpaid merchandise.
