Venezuelan family obtains asylum for protection of political opinion

Jones Day obtained a grant of asylum for a Venezuelan family of three. The family fled Venezuela in 2019 after multiple years of persecution by the government for their political opinion against the regime of Nicolas Maduro. The Jones Day team—working in a well-coordinated cross-office fashion—was able to build a successful case and prepare the witnesses for the hearing. The team’s hard work paid off, with IJ Santander noting that the clients were “articulate,” “unwavering,” and “probably some of the best witnesses [he’s] ever seen.” The clients were incredibly grateful for their attorneys and the Firm’s commitment to their case.
