Jones Day represented Commonwealth Games Australia Ltd and Commonwealth Games Federation Partnerships in relation to claims against the State of Victoria regarding the cancellation of the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games, announced in July 2023. Commonwealth Games Federation was separately represented.
The dispute with the State of Victoria was resolved at mediation before the Honourable Kit Toogood KC, and the former Chief Justice of the Western Australian Supreme Court, the Honourable Wayne Martin AC KC. The State of Victoria agreed to pay a total of AU$380 million pursuant to a confidential settlement.
