Mexican mining company defends dispute relating to insurance policy
Client(s) Mining company
Jones Day represents one of the world's largest copper companies in a US$100 million litigation related to an insurance policy, which the insurers have been denying payment for the past 16 years. The mining company suffered severe damages caused by a strike, which prevented production for an extended amount of time. For years, an adjustment process took place leading to no satisfactory outcome since the insurers wanted to pay less than 10% of the costs of the damages. In 2019, we filed a commercial claim, however, a decision is still pending.
