Charles has acted for some of Australia's largest fund investors and has significant experience within the infrastructure, energy, technology, and health care sectors. Chambers Asia-Pacific has recognized Charles for his ability to "get to the core of an issue both from a commercial and a legal perspective" and to "problem-solve on his feet."
Charles has frequently advised international clients on foreign direct investment regulations as part of their investments in Australia and has successfully steered many leading investors through the Australian regulations.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2025, Charles acted for a wide variety of clients, advising on acquisitions and investments into software companies, renewable energy businesses, wind and solar farms, data centers, education technology businesses, radiology businesses, and food and FMG (fast-moving goods) businesses. He represented clients such as Aware Super, Morrison infrastructure investors, and Accel-KKR; advised on the AU$3.5 billion acquisition of a fibre network company; acquiring and then selling a renewably enabled agricultural business; and the acquisition of a leading provider of property management and trust accounting software in Australia and New Zealand.
