With his background working as a patent examiner at the Japan Patent Office for six years and his biotechnology background, Shunji Fukasaka has in-depth experience in intellectual property law.
Before joining Jones Day in 2023, Shunji worked with a leading Japanese law firm where his practice focused on patent, trademark, design, unfair competition prevention, and copyright law. He has worked effectively with many types of tech companies in the pharmaceutical, medical device, electronics, semiconductor, and the PC and smartphone device industries involving litigation, contract drafting, contract negotiation, and intellectual property due diligence in mergers and acquisitions.
Shunji also acted as a consultant for a fashion brand on design issues and a broadcasting company on copyright issues. In addition, he has significant experience in privacy and data security issues for the automobile and electronics industries and in joint venture matters that includes the establishment of a joint venture in the health care field.
