Lisa Gates is a chemist with 30 years of experience litigating commercial and business disputes involving science, technology, and other complex issues. Lisa's cases have involved chemistry, electrochemistry, manufacturing technologies, computer hardware, software, pesticides, toxicology, civil engineering, and a host of other matters relating to science and technology. Her broad experience includes disputes involving asset purchase agreements, equity purchase agreements, sales contracts, energy services contracts, information technology contracts, employment contracts, employment discrimination, covenants not to compete, unfair competition, deceptive trade practices, RICO, trademarks, trade secrets, patents, ERISA, product liability, personal injury, toxic tort, consumer fraud, bankruptcy, and real estate.

Lisa represented a client that obtained a $47 million judgment on a jury verdict in a breach of contract action. In that case, Lisa was primarily responsible for trial preparations, and she served as supporting trial counsel. Lisa has served as lead counsel and in supporting roles in numerous appeals, trials, and evidentiary hearings in state and federal courts, including bankruptcy court.

Lisa has an active pro bono practice. She represents Douglas Prade in his motion for a new trial based on new DNA test results that exclude him as the source of male DNA found at the crime scene, as well as new scientific developments regarding the reliability of bite mark identification evidence. Lisa also has represented clients referred by the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and participates in pro bono clinics.
