Jones Day's Steve Geise named among Daily Journal's "Leading Commercial Litigators" in California
Steven N. Geise, a partner in the Firm's Business & Tort Litigation Practice and Partner-in-Charge of the San Diego Office, was named to the Daily Journal's annual list of "Leading Commercial Litigators," the "100 lawyers who lead major litigation in California and nationally."
Mr. Geise is a nationally recognized first-chair trial lawyer who focuses on representing companies in high-stakes litigation. He has tried dozens of cases, with defense verdicts in state and federal courts across the country. Mr. Geise also coordinates strategy for companies regarding medical devices, pharmaceuticals, PFAS, and other consumer products in all phases of individual and class action litigation.
Recent highlights include serving as lead trial counsel for Celgene Corporation in a five-week jury trial against health insurance company Humana, which sought more than $6.7 billion in damages for off-label prescriptions of Celgene's medications Thalomid® and Revlimid® that Humana covered nationwide from 2000-2018. The jury deliberated for less than two hours before finding in favor of Celgene on all of the causes of action before it, awarding Humana nothing. Other highlights include leading the defense in a JCCP proceeding for more than 300 personal injury and wrongful death cases filed in state courts in California that have been coordinated, and defending clients against several other personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits in California and nationally.
A Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, Mr. Geise is also ranked in Chambers USA, among Lawdragon's "500 Leading Litigators in America", and recognized by Best Lawyers in America™ (Product Liability Litigation – Defendants in San Diego). He is a Master in the Welsh Inn of Court.
