Ryan Blaney joins Jones Day as partner in Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Practice
Ryan Blaney has joined the Firm as a partner in the Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Practice. He is based in the Washington Office.
Mr. Blaney advises clients on regulatory investigations, enforcement actions, litigations, cyber incidents, compliance, and corporate transactions in the areas of data privacy, cybersecurity, health care, and artificial intelligence. He has two decades of experience representing health care entities, retail companies, and life sciences, private equity, financial services, and technology firms. Mr. Blaney has served as lead counsel defending clients in regulatory investigations conducted by agencies including HHS-OCR, DOJ, FTC, FCC, and State Attorneys General and in quarterbacking responses to large-scale ransomware attacks and cyber breaches by nation-states. He also has substantial experience defending clients in False Claims Act litigations, obtaining several declinations and dismissals.

At Jones Day, he joins a global team of lawyers with in-depth experience working on matters involving cybersecurity breaches, disputes, and litigation alleging data breaches or privacy law violations, regulatory investigations and enforcement actions, and cyber insurance. The Firm's Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection lawyers advise clients worldwide on compliance obligations and their implications in corporate transactions, governance and risk management, and cross-border data transfers, and are experienced across multiple industry sectors, including emerging technologies, health care, financial services, retail, communications, manufacturing, and transportation.

Mr. Blaney earned his law degree from Notre Dame Law School, and his B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Notre Dame. He has been recognized by The Legal 500 each year from 2021-2023 for excellence in Cyber Law (including Data Protection & Privacy).
