Jones Day adds Energy partner Paul Jones in London

Paul Jones has joined Jones Day as a partner in the Energy Practice, based in the London Office.

Mr. Jones has more than 18 years of experience working across the full energy value chain, with a particular emphasis on advising clients on upstream oil and gas, LNG, and low carbon and other energy transition projects. Recent highlights include leading on acquisitions of upstream assets in the North Sea, a £300 million fundraising to develop the UK's first commercial-scale liquid air energy storage plant, and the development of a green hydrogen and ammonia project in Oman. He previously served as General Counsel for a Dubai-based, government-owned international oil company and has advised clients on transactions in more than 20 countries across the continent of Africa.

"Paul has advised a number of leading companies in the energy sector on high-stakes transactions and projects," said Jeff Schlegel, who leads Jones Day's Energy Practice. "In addition to his track record in private practice, he has also worked as the head of legal operations for a major oil company in the Middle East, giving him a real and practical understanding of what it takes to support clients in the pursuit of successful commercial and legal outcomes. We are delighted that he has joined Jones Day."

Mr. Jones joins a team of more than 120 lawyers worldwide in Jones Day's Energy Practice who provide counsel to clients in energy, natural resources, and energy transition matters involving M&A, project development, commercial transactions, disputes, regulatory compliance, competition, intellectual property, and marketing and trading. In London, Mr. Jones' arrival comes on the heels of recent additions Sage Revell and Alex Chalk KC, former Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, as partners in the Firm's Corporate and Global Disputes practices, respectively.

"Paul is a well-respected energy lawyer here in the UK for his work on a number of significant oil and gas, liquified natural gas, and renewable energy transactions around the world," said Vica Irani, Co-Leader of Jones Day's Corporate Practice. "He is an exceptional addition to the Jones Day team and we welcome him to the Firm."

Mr. Jones was recognized by IFLR1000's Guide to Energy & Infrastructure and The Legal 500 for his legal excellence in the area of energy and infrastructure. He earned his law degree from the University of Oxford and is a graduate of the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice.

"Jones Day is a go-to law firm for companies in the energy industry that need elite counsel in the upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas sectors, as well as the energy transition space, which is ideally aligned with my practice," said Mr. Jones. "I'm eager to join the global Energy Practice and look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues throughout the world to help our clients complete the important transactions that will support their corporate objectives."
