Verizon Wireless defeats class certification in California wage and hour case
Client(s) Verizon Wireless, Inc.
Jones Day represented AirTouch Cellular d/b/a Verizon Wireless in a putative class action alleging that it violates California's split-shift and reporting time pay laws by paying its retail employees only for actual time spent at mandatory meetings. The court granted its motion for summary judgment on the claims of two of the named plaintiffs, awarded Defendant approximately $250K in attorneys' fees against those two named plaintiffs, and denied the motion for class certification filed by the other named plaintiffs.
