GOJO defeats class actions alleging false advertising relating to Purell^® hand sanitizers

Jones Day successfully defended GOJO Industries, Inc., the maker of Purell^® hand sanitizer products, in multiple putative nationwide class actions. The plaintiffs asserted consumer protection/false advertising claims in which they allege that Purell^® brand hand sanitizers are falsely advertised as killing 99.99% of illness-causing germs even though, plaintiffs allege, alcohol-based hand sanitizer does not in fact prevent the spread of disease. After successfully moving to transfer and consolidate cases in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, achieved dismissal with prejudice of all claims in consolidated actions with no discovery on the defendant.
