The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Toby Sears has joined the Firm as a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice. He is based in Jones Day's London Office.

Mr. Sears is a patent disputes litigator who represents clients in the technology and life sciences sectors. He has worked with some of the largest companies in the world to advise on large-scale international matters in telecommunications, artificial intelligence, information technology, and software. "His addition will strengthen our European IP team at a time when patent litigation is increasing in complexity and importance globally."

At Jones Day, Mr. Sears joins a team of more than 220 professionals worldwide who leverage courtroom skills, strategic business acumen, and technology prowess to help clients win cases, strengthen IP portfolios, close major technology-driven transactions, and navigate risk. Jones Day is one of the few global law firms with a full-service Intellectual Property Practice, including the litigation of complex multijurisdictional disputes across Australia, Asia, Europe, and the United States.

"Toby has established himself in London as one of the rising stars in patent litigation across the high-tech and life sciences sectors," said John Phillips, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's London Office. "He is a skilled IP lawyer whose experience will be a tremendous asset to our clients worldwide and I am delighted that he has chosen to join the Jones Day team, which has successfully advised on countless patent litigation cases over the years, particularly in the pharmaceuticals space."

Mr. Sears was recently recognized on the shortlist of candidates for the FT's Innovative Lawyers Awards Europe 2024. He earned a graduate diploma in law and legal practice from Kaplan Law School in London and a degree in pharmacology from King's College in London.

"Jones Day is renowned for its seamless integration of intellectual property lawyers worldwide and bringing to bear the best possible legal talent to advise clients for the specific matter at hand, regardless of where the lawyer is based," said Mr. Sears.
