Visa wins summary judgment motion in patent infringement action brought by SmartMetric
Client(s) Visa Inc.
Jones Day successfully defended Visa Inc. against claims that the use of Visa-branded integrated circuit cards to conduct payment transactions infringed upon SmartMetric's patent directed to secure network access. In particular, SmartMetric alleged that transactions originating from integrated circuit cards that have been inserted into data card readers infringed upon the claims of U.S. Patent No. 6,792,464. On behalf of Visa Inc., we successfully obtained summary judgment of non-infringement on all claims, resulting in dismissal of the litigation.
