Victim of domestic violence and her children obtain lawful permanent status
Client(s) Client M.S.
Jones Day assisted client M.S. and her three children in obtaining lawful permanent resident status in the United States. M.S. was referred to Jones Day by Her Justice. Over the course of several months, the Jones Day team met with M.S. and assisted her with drafting and filing the necessary documents to petition for legal status under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which permits immigrant survivors of domestic violence who have married citizens or legal residents of the United States to petition for legal residency without relying on their abusive husbands' help. The Jones Day team also prepared the applications for M.S.'s children.
