UPMC arbitrates rate increase and resolves dispute over continuity of care services

Jones Day represented the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in two last-best-offer, baseball-style arbitrations with Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurer Highmark Inc. The first arbitration lasted five days, and regarded the rates that Highmark must pay to UPMC from 2016 to 2019 under the Consent Decrees previously negotiated by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett. UPMC and Highmark settled the second matter on the morning the arbitration was scheduled to begin, thereby resolving a dispute regarding the scope of continuity of care services that will remain in-network to Highmark's commercial subscribers.
