Honduran woman obtains asylum in contested immigration case
Client(s) Client
Jones Day represented pro bono a woman from Honduras in connection with the Firm’s Laredo Project. Our client fled her native country after more than a decade of severe domestic violence at the hands of her estranged partner. After being held in a detention center in Texas for over half a year, our client had her asylum hearing in the San Antonio Immigration Court. After a full merits hearing, the Immigration Judge ruled in our client’s favor, granting her immediate asylum status in the United States. The Government waived its right to appeal.
