Cooper Lighting successfully asserts patents relating to LED downlights against competitors
Client(s) Eaton Corporation
Jones Day represented Eaton Corporation's subsidiary Cooper Lighting, LLC, in successfully asserting four Cooper Lighting patents on LED downlights against competitors Cordelia Lighting, Inc. and Jimway, Inc. The parties reached a settlement agreement under which Cordelia and Jimway agreed to license the patents. During the course of the litigation, Cordelia filed IPR petitions in the PTAB challenging all four patents. The PTAB denied institution on two petitions, and only partially instituted IPR on the other two petitions. All of Cooper's patent claims remain intact, as Cordelia and Jimway agreed to license the patents prior to final written decisions in the pending IPRs.
