Regional Convening on the Issue of Forced Labor in Health Care Supply Chains

Jones Day New York Office

Jones Day, the American Hospital Association's Hospitals Against Violence Initiative, and HEAL Trafficking (Health, Education, Advocacy, Linkage) recently hosted a regional convening. The event provided practical information and resources regarding forced labor in health care supply chains to over 50 attendees including New York-area health care providers, health systems, and hospital associations.

The event highlighted potential liability for health care entities as it relates to forced labor in global supply chains.

The Firm's Bethany Biesenthal, Taylor Goodspeed, and Julia Feldman, along with Northwell Health deputy counsel Paul Kaufman, discussed a variety of pressing forced labor issues from the perspective of both in-house and external counsel. These included:

  • the contours of United States anti-trafficking law;
  • trends in compliance and government enforcement; and
  • diligence and disclosure risks, especially as they relate to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
