Pierre Heitzmann and Kamil Mehiz—both members of the Firm's Global Disputes Practice and resident in our Dubai Office—were recognized in The Legal 500 Powerlist 2023 for Arbitration (Middle East). The publication is designed to highlight the region's leading arbitration counsel to Legal 500's broad international readership of private practice lawyers, in-house counsel, and expert witnesses.
Mr. Heitzmann's main areas of practice are international arbitration and complex cross-border litigation related to, inter alia, construction and engineering projects, joint ventures, investment disputes, license agreements, distribution agreements, and share sale and purchase agreements. He has acted as lead counsel representing private companies, sovereigns, and state-owned entities in international arbitrations under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Arbitration Centre of the Dubai International Financial Centre-London Court of International Arbitration (DIFC-LCIA), United Nations Commission On International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), and Swiss rules, and in many cross-border litigation cases. Mr. Heitzmann's recent representations include representing clients from the Middle East, Japan, Africa, North America, and Europe in international arbitration proceedings across various industries, such as construction, power and water distribution, telecom, defense, pharmaceuticals, process equipment, forex trading, waste management, and food packaging. He has been named in the Chambers Global Guide 2023 – Dispute Resolution: Most in Demand Arbitrators list for the third year in a row.
Mr. Mehiz's practice focuses on international commercial and investor-state arbitration. In recent years, he has been a leading member of the Firm's teams winning millions of dollars for clients in disputes arising out of the Middle East. Mr. Mehiz has successfully represented private companies, foreign sovereigns, and state-owned entities in the resolution of international disputes brought before the ICSID, the ICC, the Swiss Arbitration Centre (SAC), as well as the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA). He has also assisted in the preparation of submissions before local courts (including in France and Saudi Arabia) in matters related to the enforcement and annulment of arbitral awards. He has experience in both French and U.S. law arbitrations, and in a variety of industries, including the energy, construction, infrastructure, and textiles sectors.
