Three Jones Day lawyers named 2024 "Rising Stars" by Law360

Three Jones Day lawyers have been named to the annual "Rising Stars" list by Law360 for 2024. The lawyers were recognized for their professional accomplishments in their areas of practice. The Firm's lawyers selected by Law360—and the respective Law360 categories in which they were honored—include:

  • Claire Pauly - International Arbitration
  • Jim Saywell -  Appellate
  • Kristina Yost - Employment

Ms. Pauly is a partner in the Paris Office in the Global Disputes Practice. She advises and represents companies before international arbitral tribunals. She is known for her ability to solve complex contractual and financial issues, including the quantification of damages. She recently successfully secured a partial award dismissing more than 70% of a large claim for costs and damages in international arbitration relating to an oil and gas project in Europe for being precluded by settlement agreements, and awarding full costs. She works with clients across various industries, particularly those in the energy, retail, real estate, and pharmaceuticals sectors and represents clients in annulment, enforcement, and arbitration-related proceedings before French courts. Ms. Pauly is secretary general of Paris Arbitration Week and teaches arbitration and litigation strategy at the University of Paris II-Panthéon Assas, Sciences Po Paris, the University of Paris Saclay, and the Centre for Mediation and Arbitration of Paris (CMAP).

Mr. Saywell is a partner in the Cleveland Office in the Issues & Appeals Practice. He works on significant legal questions in complex civil cases with a particular focus on appellate advocacy and critical motions practice. Though his substantive practice varies, he has special experience with class actions; per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); and constitutional, statutory, and contract interpretation. He has drafted merits and amicus briefs and argued cases at all levels of federal and state courts—from state supreme courts, to federal appellate courts and state and federal trial courts. He recently successfully represented Whirlpool after a certified class of consumers alleged the company had marketed some of their washing machines inappropriately as Energy Star-rated. After helping to secure summary judgment at the district court on the class's warranty and consumer-protection claims, he argued and won the case on appeal at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Prior to joining Jones Day, he served as a law clerk for Justice Samuel A. Alito at the Supreme Court of the United States and for Judges Jeffrey Sutton and David McKeague at the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ms. Yost is a partner in the New York Office in the Labor & Employment Practice. She has over fifteen years of experience defending significant employment litigation; counseling employers on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; conducting sensitive investigations and internal audits; and assisting employers in developing strong policies and practices. She has extensive experience defending companies in wage and hour class actions, including hybrid Fair Labor Standards Act and Rule 23 state law class claims. Ms. Yost recently obtained summary judgment on behalf of Bloomberg L.P. on the named plaintiff's claims in a putative class and collective action challenging Bloomberg's timekeeping practices. She also has defended companies in single and multiplaintiff Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Housing Act, and other discrimination matters, including in Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other agency investigations.
