On Monday, November 30, 2015, the Right Honourable Sir Brian Leveson (the President of the Queen's Bench Division) approved the resolution of the first UK Bribery Act section 7 proceedings by way of a Deferred Prosecution Agreement, a procedure never before used in the UK. The Director of the Serious Fraud Office noted the landmark nature of the agreement and applauded the way in which the matter had been approached. The Judge commented that this should create the benchmark against which future such applications may be assessed. The approach also led to the closure by the U.S. Department of Justice of its investigation.
