Benin adopts law creating Digital Code governing all legal aspects of digital activities

Jones Day assisted the authorities of Benin (including members of Parliament, the Presidential Office, the Ministry in charge of telecommunications, the Ministry of Justice, the Regulatory Authority for Post and Electronic Communications, the National Commission for Data Protection, the Ministry of Interior Affairs, and the Digital Council) with drafting the Digital Code, a new legal framework designed to aid the development of broadband infrastructure and a digital economy.
The Digital Code impacts the rule of law in telecommunications, electronic communications, e-commerce, e-government, cybersecurity, e-transactions, personal data, and the liability of internet intermediaries.
