Notre Dame defends personal injury lawsuit brought by former student-athlete in Ohio relating to football concussion injuries
Client(s) University of Notre Dame
Jones Day is defending the University of Notre Dame in a personal injury lawsuit in Ohio state court brought by the estate and widow of a former football student-athlete. The plaintiffs claim that Notre Dame and the NCAA failed to warn the decedent about the risk of long-term brain injuries allegedly caused by playing football and seek damages for the effects of concussive and sub-concussive hits that he sustained during his football career. Jones Day briefed and argued a significant legal issue before the Ohio Supreme Court involving the application of the statute of limitations to plaintiffs' claims.
